Rarity Scale: Very Rare
This is the very first album on the legendary Vertigo label. This album starts the Vertigo Swirl period which brought us many legendary albums.
Colosseum is a very talented band with a couple of great British jazz-rock albums.
This is the earliest first pressing copy with “A Philips Record Product” credit on the B-side label with a 111 stamper.
The vinyl of this copy is a clean EX with a lovely playback. There is some tiny background here and there but nothing serious. The labels are clean with only 1 or 2 spindle marks which shows minimal signs of playing.
The sleeve is a good VG+. The is no writing or tears. The spine is fully readable. The corners are slightly worn and there is a tiny sticker damage on the right top corner of the front sleeve. The bottom of the sleeve is a bit worn. The record comes in it’s correct original swirl inner sleeve without date code. This type of swirl inner was only used for the first 7 releases of the Vertigo Swirl label.

A large selection of rare vinyl records from the golden era.
Colosseum was a 6 headed jazz-rock outfit from England. The band started in 1968 and emerged in 1971. The band contained some famous names like Dave Greenslade (later started Greenslade) and Clem Clempson (later active in Humble-Pie).
Valentyne Suite is the 2nd studio album by the band after releasing their first album on Fontana. The album was released in late 1969 on the catalog number VO1.
The songs on Valentyne Suite are awesome for every UK jazz-rock fan and very well arranged. The music is a progressive mix of styles like jazz, rock and blues. There are a lot of solos and interplay. The lyrics were written by the famous writer, poet and musician “Pete Brown”.
The amazing artwork was made by the master himself “Marcus Keef” who did a lot of work for the Vertigo label like the legendary Black Sabbath album (VO6), Cressida Asylum and many more.
The inside of the gatefold was made by “Linda Glover” who also designed the Vertigo Swirl itself.
Overall this copy is a very solid example of this legendary album. The small defaults on the sleeve makes the price much more interesting than normally asked for this gem.
